On Friday 25 September 2026, ABC UK UK held its 5th annual Nurse Education Day at The Studio in Birmingham. Bringing together 114 specialist urology and cancer nurses from across the UK, it was our biggest event yet!.
The day provided a fantastic opportunity for healthcare professionals to connect, discuss clinical advancements, and share practical strategies to improve bladder cancer care. It was a truly inspiring day of learning and collaboration, driven by a shared commitment to improving patient outcomes.
Highlights from the 2026 Programme
Presentations focused on clinical decision-making and modern treatment pathways. Experts in urology, oncology, and advanced nursing led discussions on several key aspects of patient care including:
• Optimising Care Pathways: Sessions explored the latest guidelines for patients with suspected bladder cancer, focusing on delivery checklists that help clinical teams streamline care and secure high-quality patient outcomes.
• Interactive Case Studies: Featuring complex clinical case studies presented by specialist urology nurses. These real-world scenarios prompted valuable collaborative problem-solving across the room.
• Holistic Patient Wellbeing: Speakers also addressed long-term recovery challenges, including a session on psychosexual support and intimacy care for patients living with and beyond bladder cancer.
If you missed the event, you can take a look at the full programme on our ABC UK Nurse Education page.
Introducing Our Latest Patient Resource
We were also delighted to launch our latest resource for urology nurses: specialised A4 pad sheets designed to help guide conversations during a diagnosis. Each tear-off sheet includes clear explanations of grading and staging, a blank bladder diagram for personalisation, and space for notes to help patients process vital information at a difficult time.

Diane Leach Named 2026 Nurse of the Year
The day finished with the presentation of the ABC UK Nurse of the Year Award 2026. First launched in 2025, this award celebrates specialist nurses who go above and beyond, recognising those who have done exceptional work to support bladder cancer patients or improve their clinical experience.
This year’s award went to Diane Leach, Lead Uro-oncology Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Nominated by multiple colleagues for her exceptional dedication and clinical expertise, Diane represents the profound impact that specialist nursing has on the patient experience.
Positive Feedback from the Nursing Community
Feedback from attendees underscores the value of maintaining a dedicated space for urology nurses to connect. Comments from the day have included:
“I am recommending this event to my colleagues. I enjoyed the day and learnt a LOT. I left feeling curious, inspired and motivated.”
“Every year this event has gone from strength to strength. In previous years I have wondered how next year would top it. A great day but every year it does. Well done :)”
Action Bladder Cancer UK extends its sincere thanks to all of our speakers, corporate supporters, and delegates who contributed to making the day such a success.
